In order to meet the challenges facing I3RC, two working groups have been formed:

• "Approximations" - This group considers both deterministic and stochastic approximate methods in an attempt to gain advantages in execution time, and also to advance understanding of 3D radiative processes.
• "Open Source" - This group develops a Monte Carlo radiative transfer model that makes state-of-the-art techniques available to a wide range of users.
